Career Solutions career reports should print on any printer that is supported by your Windows operating system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

My computer is telling me that the program has expired
I want to print/complete/rework a report, but I can't find it
How long do you suggest I keep an individual report?
My computer shuts down every time I try to run up the program.
I am trying to install the program onto the network, but can't access the program from more than one PC.
My program tells me it has expired but I know it is not due to yet.

My computer has crashed/been upgraded and I need to reinstall the program.
  • Where the computer has crashed or been upgraded and the deinstallation process has not occurred, you will need to reinstall the program. Use the program CD and registration floppy disk that was used for your last installation and follow our standard installation procedure as per the Getting Started Guide.

My computer is telling me that the program has expired.

  • If you are not a currently registered user you are required to purchase a current version. For existing or past customers, this is only the cost of an annual update.
  • If the latest version has not been installed you will need to locate and install the latest version. Annual updates are sent automatically by courier. If you are unable to locate your updated version please contact Career Solutions for further assistance.
  • Check the current date on your computer by hovering the mouse pointer over the time display in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If this does not show todays date you will need to change it. Double click on the time display and enter the correct date and time details. If you have a single user copy you will need to deinstall and then reinstall the program once you have corrected the date.
  • When the latest version of the software was installed it could have been placed in a different directory to the previous version, which has been accessed by a shortcut key/desktop icon. This means the shortcut key/icon remains linked to the old/expired version and will continue to run up the old/expired version when selected.
To confirm that this is the case, click START - PROGRAMS - CAREER SOLUTIONS SOFTWARE - CAREER BUILDER (or CAREERMATE, NEWDIRECTIONS or CAREERBUILDERPLUS depending on the program which has been installed). This will run up the latest installed version. If this runs up okay, you are using a shortcut key/icon on the desktop, which is continuing to access the old/expired version from a different directory.
    Solution
    • Delete old shortcut key and then create a new one, or
    • Right Click on the old shortcut and under shortcut, check the path of the Target: and click Start. This should be the path of the new installation.

I want to print/complete/rework a report, but I can't find it.

  • You may have completed a report on an expired version. The program is not designed to automatically produce reports from a previous version's data. Therefore, a career report from an expired version can be reprinted, but cannot be reworked or changed.
    Solution
    • The relevant career reports from an expired version can be restored upon installation of the new version. If the new program has been installed in the same directory as the previous (which is the default option), career reports completed on the previous version will automatically be restored at the end of the installation process and will appear in SETUP under Batch Printing. The reports will be denoted by an exclamation mark in a triangle. You may select Export, highlight the report or reports to be re-printed and save to a different directory or disk drive.
    • If you elected to install the new version to a different directory from the previous version, accessing USERDATA in the BACKUP directory can retrieve the relevant data. A list of data files will appear.
    • You can highlight those files you wish to retrieve, select Import from the SETUP menu, and then select Export to save to the current new version directory or drive.
    • Similarly, if you need to copy the disks from one PC to another, you need to enter Windows Explorer, C drive, Carsol_s (for single user) or Carsol_n (for network user) and right click on the directory, Userdata, then left click on copy. Select drive A, right click, then left click to paste files to A drive. You should then run up the Setup program to Batch Printing. Select import, then the A drive, double click on Userdata and select Datafile and okay. The report can then be printed from the current installed version.
    • To print the report, the Supplementary Printing Program will need to be installed (if not already) from the previous version's disks. This can be installed on the current system or on another computer. Select the Supplementary Printing Program icon, enter SETUP, select Batch Printing and Import. You can select the path or drive where the files have been saved and select Print option.
  • If you completed/started your report on a different system you will need to access the same computer or computer system.
  • If you started/completed your report more than 30 days ago the SETUP file may be coded to the default setting where all files are automatically deleted after 30 days. If the file has been automatically deleted, it cannot be accessed. To prevent a re-occurrence, you are encouraged to save either into a different directory or onto a floppy, or alternatively, to change the default setting in SETUP, select Change Printer and Program Settings, select Career Report Option 3.
  • It is possible that Batch Printing is not coded to display all files. In the Batch Printing section, check that the top left hand box options are identifying "all" files to include both complete and incomplete files.

How long do you suggest I keep an individual report?

  • The client/student's report is set automatically on a single licence to delete after 30 days. You will need to change this if you wish to maintain a record on the hard drive for a longer period of time or alternatively, copy to disk. On site/network copies, the career report will remain on the system until you choose to delete or the program is superseded. You may change the period in SETUP, select Change Printer and Program Settings, Career Report Option 3.

My computer shuts down every time I try to run up the program.

  • It is possible that your computer system may not have enough memory (refer to the technical specifications above). If so you will need to move to a different computer or upgrade your current system.
  • If there is a fault with your disks please contact Career Solutions and we will replace them quickly and free of charge.

I am trying to install the program onto the network, but can't access the program from more than one PC.

  • In order to achieve this you require a site/network version of the software. If you only have a single user copy please contact Career Solutions to discuss upgrade options.
  • You may not have been granted access rights by your Network Administrator. Contact your IT support staff to arrange for the software to be installed.
  • If your server has been set so that the software can not be installed on it you will need to load the software on to each end user computer.

My program tells me it has expired but I know it is not due to yet.

  • The date within the computer is different, or has been changed, from the actual date and goes beyond the date in the software setup program. If this has happened, the software will automatically expire because it will not correspond with the mainframe set up.
Check the expiry date or message appearing on screen. Change the date to reflect correct date. De-install and re-install the program.
